This container is forged, filed, formed, and fabricated from wrought iron and brass. The lid is ornamented with a combination of 24K and 18K gold. This is done with a technique called nunome zogan which uses a small chisel and hammer to raise fine teeth on the base material into which thin foil or wire can be set. Seth Gould received the Emerging Award of Excellence from the Japan Kogei Association for this work as part of the the 50th Traditional Metalwork Exhibition in 2022.
