CONTAINER No. 7
2020
steel, brass, fine silver
3.25” x 3.25” x 2.375”
This small container was turned on the lathe and finished with file work. The lid, formed out of brass, is ornamented with a hexagonal floral pattern in fine silver. This is achieved with a technique called nunome zogan, which uses a small chisel and hammer to raise very small teeth on the base material into which thin foil or wire can be set. The rich brass color is achieved by a Japanese patina called rokusho.
