This small container is forged, filed, formed, and fabricated from wrought iron and brass. The lid is ornamented with fine silver wire. This is done with a technique called nunome zogan which uses a small chisel and hammer to raise fine teeth on the base material into which thin foil or wire can be set. The rich brass color is achieved by a Japanese patina called rokusho.
